Selkies: On the path to Irish Dance (Ages 5-7) 5:30-6pm
This class is suitable for younger students and those new to dance; it prepares students for more challenging movements in traditional steps. Students will learn and practice basic skills including weight placement, weight shift, hand and foot placement, and moving in time to music. Students should be able to skip forwards and backwards and follow directions in a classroom setting before enrolling.
Beginning Irish Dance: Young adults and Teens (Ages 7-17) 6-7pm
This class will teach dancers the basics of traditional Irish dance in light shoes, including the Beginner Reel, Single Jig, Slip Jig, and Light Jig. If the program is successful, we will later add dances in hardshoes (hornpipes, treble jigs, and set pieces).
All instructor profits from this course will be donated to the Gridley High School Music and Band Program.
Beginning Irish Dance – Older Teens and Adults (ages 18 and up) 7-8 pm
You're never too old to learn Irish step dance! This class introduces the same solo stops and rhythms as the classes for children and teens, but in a lower style and faster pace suitable for adult dancers. No street shoes. Jazz shoes or soft-soled slippers only.
Irish social dancing (ages 7 and up) 8 – 9:15 pm
This class teaches Irish figure (social dances) for fun. Learn popular ceili, set, and Donegal two-hand dances. No partner needed, just soft shoes and a love of dance!
